As long as the sun still rises, the parking garage at the Salt Palace will have light.

Several local leaders gathered Tuesday morning for an official "lighting ceremony" of the 104 solar panels recently installed at the downtown convention center.

"Solar power is gaining favor with government, business and developers," Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon said. "Salt Lake County is committed to conserve traditional energy resources and invest in renewable solar and wind."

Rocky Mountain Power funded half of the $200,000 project, with Salt Lake County paying for the other half.
