NATURE/BIRD WALKS

The Wild Bird Center in Layton will be holding a series of nature/bird walks this fall. Walks will leave the center at 8 a.m. Those attending will carpool to the walk location.

The walks are designed for birders at all levels and are ideal for families. Those attending are advised to dress for the weather and bring binoculars.

Walks will be Sept. 16 to the Blue Bird Trail to lean and count nest boxes, Sept. 30 to Francis Peak Raptor Migration, Oct. 7 to USU Botanical Gardens and Oct. 28 to Nature Conservancy Shorebird Preserve.

The Wild Bird Center is located in the Layton Market Center, 1860 N. 1000 West, Layton, Exit 335 Antelope Drive off I-15. Call 801-525-8400

SPLORE GET-TOGETHER

Tuesday, SPLORE is having a get-together in celebration of Sarah's Ride Across America.

This summer, Sarah Grant rode her bike 3,687 miles from Oregon to New Hampshire. Money raised went to a scholarship fund for children and adults with physical, cognitive, developmental and emotional/behavioral disabilities. SPLORE, a nonprofit organization, provides outdoor recreational opportunities to children and adults with disabilities and specific needs

Sarah's ride raised $55,000. The event will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Porcupine Pub & Grill at 3698 E. Fort Union Blvd.

NATURE CENTER CLASSES

The Ogden Nature Center is offering a number of community classes and events for fall.

Sept. 21 — Beginning Nordic Walking class at 6 p.m.

Sept. 23 — Make and Take Rainsticks at the Harvest Moon Festival from 2 to 5 p.m. Free.

Sept. 28 — The Wolves of Yellowstone slide show and talk at 7 p.m. Fee.

Sept. 29 — Drawing Flying Creatures at 6 p.m. Fee.

CANOE TRIP

The Utah Rivers Council will hold a canoe trip on the Bear River on Sept. 23. Those attending will learn about the diverse birds and wildlife and dam proposals.

The trip will start at 10 a.m. and last three hours.
