If you go to Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park is open year-round, but because of its northern location, weather conditions can lead to the closure of some parts during the winter months.

Park services are generally open from late May through September. At other times of the year, limited service is available inside the park. But all services are available outside the park and in nearby communities. The peak visitor season is June-September. You will find smaller crowds, but equally spectacular scenery, during the off-season. It's a good idea to check on conditions before you go.

Most of the lodges inside the park were built in the early 1900s, and many are listed as national historic places. They are operated by concessionaire Glacier Park Inc. For information and to make reservations, call 406-892-2525 or visit www.glacierparkinc.com. Many lodges fill up early. Reservations can be made up to a year in advance.

Ten campgrounds offer just under 1,000 sites. Most are operated on a first-come, first-serve basis. Permits are required for backcountry camping.
