Preps of the week

SETH FRAUGHTON, Viewmont: The emergence of this junior running back is a big reason why the Vikings are off to an impressive 4-0 start.

Last week against Northridge, Fraughton rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries to lead the Vikings to the 21-13 win.

"I think he does a great job of second effort," said Viewmont coach Robbie Gunter. "He makes that little extra spin, extra push and he always has that forward lean."

Through four games this season, Fraughton has racked up 370 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Fraughton also plays basketball and runs track at Viewmont.

CHERISE BONA, Murray: This Murray senior has been voted team captain two years in a row for her ability and her attitude.

"She's great, and the other kids just feed off of her," said Spartan volleyball coach Wendy Pehrson. "She's highly competitive, but she also eases the tension when we need comic relief."

Bona's strength this year is her versatility as the Spartans need her more on the right side than her usual position of outside hitter. She helped the team earn its first upset in the region-opener against Cottonwood with nine kills and four blocks. Her experience playing every spot on the net has made her a tough defender.
