Gas prices slide but not in Utah
It was the second national decline in a row since a mid-August peak, according to a survey released Sunday.
The national average for self-serve regular stood at approximately $2.65 on Sept. 8, down from about $2.87, according to the Lundberg Survey of 7,000 gas stations across the country.
That was about 35 cents less than last year at this time.
Mid-grade prices averaged $2.77 a gallon, while premium cost $2.87.
Sunday's average for unleaded regular in Utah was $2.95, according to the AAA Utah Web site. That reflects only a one-cent drop from the statewide average on Aug. 10.
Nationally, gas prices peaked Aug. 11 at $3.02 and have fallen nearly 37 cents since.
The average price in the Salt Lake City-Ogden market on Sunday was $2.90 a gallon, down from $2.92 a month ago. The average price in Provo-Orem was $2.94, a slight increase from the average price of $2.92 last month, according to AAA Utah.
Utahgasprices.com reported Sunday that two Utah service stations were selling unleaded regular for $2.77 per gallon a Costco in Bountiful and a Sam's Club in Layton. The least expensive price for unleaded regular available from a gasoline retailer was $2.82 per gallon at a Maverik in Roy, according to the Web site. Three other Maveriks were selling unleaded for $2.83 per gallon.
Utahgasprices.com also listed stations with the highest unleaded gas prices over the weekend. The highest price, $3.19 per gallon, was reported at the Shell, Conoco, Chevron and Texaco stations in Beaver. Two stations in St. George and one in Salina were selling gas for $3.12, the Web site said.
Nationally, the lowest gas price found in the most recent survey was $2.32 a gallon for regular in Des Moines, Iowa, and the highest was in Honolulu at $3.17.
Among California cities surveyed, the highest average price for regular was $2.96 a gallon in Los Angeles. The lowest, $2.83 a gallon, was in Sacramento.
The average for self-serve regular in California was about $2.92, a drop of nearly 15 cents in the past two weeks, the survey found.
