PROVO — Taylor King completed a short pass over the middle to Provo teammate Austin Alder, who turned it into a 40-yard touchdown with less than a minute to play to give the Bulldogs a 14-10 win over Pleasant Grove on Friday night.

Bulldog quarterback Warner Jarman left the game in the first half with a shoulder injury after rushing for 24 yards on eight carries and passing for 78 yards and one touchdown on 3-for-3 passing. Second-string quarterback Quynn Haws struggled through the second half and ultimately was replaced by King, who played quarterback for only the Bulldogs' final, decisive possession. King was 2-for-3 for 58 yards and the winning TD.

"I haven't practiced quarterback in four weeks," King said. "But I had a lot of confidence in the offensive line and our running backs and receivers that they'd catch the ball. I just let it fly. It was fun."

Provo (3-1) struck first when Jarman connected with Alder on a 69-yard pass down the right sideline that put the Bulldogs up 7-0 with five seconds remaining in the first quarter. The three-play drive covered 87 yards in only 1:28.

The Vikings (2-2) then ran off 10 unanswered points, all off Bulldog turnovers.

Provo was threatening with six minutes remaining in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs fumbled the ball at the Pleasant Grove 28-yard line. The Vikings struck quickly with a five-play drive that covered 72 yards. The touchdown came on a trick play where Zach Brady passed to LeSean Wilcox in the backfield; Wilcox passed deep downfield to Tabor Secretan for the 56-yard score to even the game at 7-7.

Pleasant Grove's field goal came after the Vikings intercepted Haws at midfield. Eleven plays later, Mark Kennington kicked a 28-yard field goal to give the Vikings the lead at 10-7.

The lead held until King substituted in with 4:36 remaining and the ball on the Bulldog 23-yard line. The critical play in the drive was a Provo fourth and 15 at its own 30. King was almost sacked but scrambled long enough to see Alder open for an 18-yard completion. Six plays later, King found Alder for the winning score with 55 seconds remaining. The Bulldogs then held as the Viking desperately tried to get down field to tie the game.
