• Jan. 28: Former U.S. weapons inspection team head David Kay tells a Senate committee that no weapons of mass destruction were found in Iraq and that prewar intelligence was "almost all wrong"

• March 11: Train bombings in Madrid, Spain, kill about 200 people

• May 26: Attorney General John Ashcroft warns of a possible attack by al-Qaida somewhere in the U.S. in the next few months

• June 16: Staff for the 9/11 commission claims there was no evidence to support the notion that Iraq cooperated with al-Qaida on the terrorist attacks of 2001

• June 27: Michael Moore's film "Fahrenheit 9/11," which criticizes the Bush administration's response to the terrorist attacks, opens with $21.8 million in ticket sales

• June 28: U.S. transfers political authority in Iraq to an interim government

2005

• July 7: Over 50 are killed by simultaneous terrorist bombings in three underground trains in London — an hour later a fourth bomb rips apart a double-decker bus, bringing the death toll to 56, which includes the four bombers
