N.D. THREATENER FINED: A Florida man who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of leaving a threatening telephone message for then-Notre Dame football coach Tyrone Willingham has been fined $2,000 and placed on probation for another year.

SAMPSON TO PLEAD GUILTY: Former NBA and Virginia star Ralph Sampson has agreed to plead guilty to mail fraud and serve two months in jail, his attorney said Wednesday.

The attorney, James C. Roberts, said prosecutors will drop charges of perjury, making a false claim and making a false statement about his finances in a child support case.

CLARETT REQUEST DENIED: A judge denied Maurice Clarett's request Wednesday for a survey to determine whether the former Ohio State star running back can get a fair trial in the city that once cheered him.

Figure skating

COLLEGE FOR KWAN: Michelle Kwan will skip the upcoming figure skating season and attend the University of Denver.

Kwan said Wednesday she will become a full-time student at Denver but will be content to skate in exhibitions.

MCNAMARA TO GREECE: Former Syracuse guard Gerry McNamara has signed a one-year contract to play for Olympiakos of Greek league.
