Lone Peak sweeps Taylorsville
The Knights' volleyball team took down a solid Taylorsville squad Tuesday in an easy three-game sweep, 25-23, 25-17, 25-20, and had plenty of help from everyone on the court in the process.
"That's the best we've played so far this year," Lone Peak coach Deanna Meyer said. "We're a really young team. We only have two seniors."
Incoming sophomore Aubrey Moena had 10 kills in 21 attempts with only one error in the match, prompting her coach to say, "She's the real deal."
Another real deal for the Knights is senior Christie Carpenter, who had 12 kills. Both players looked unstoppable at times for a tough squad with plenty to live up to, even though many of the players didn't play much for last year's team, and even fewer lined up for the state championship squads.
Setter Lacey Laycock had 38 assists.
"She's still trying to figure things out because she has a lot of options," Meyer said. "She did a really good job. She was more unpredictable."
Laycock's many options not only include Carpenter and Moena, who would scare any other opposing team by themselves, but Kari Shumway, Lacey Cramer and Jessica Cook, who all know how to smash a ball.

ENTERPRISE DEF. MILLARD 25-17, 25-8, 25-19: Jessica Hunt had 10 kills and Shanley Truman added four aces as Enterprise defeated Millard in straight sets.
NONREGION
MOUNTAIN VIEW DEF. PAYSON 25-12, 25-19, 25-14: Macy Merrell had seven kills and Gabby Feliciano added six aces as Mountain View beat Payson in straight sets.
UINTAH DEF. JUAN DIEGO 25-17, 25-14, 25-19: Nicole Brady had 12 kills and the Utes recorded 13 aces in the win against Juan Diego.
BEAR RIVER DEF. WEBER 28-26, 25-9, 23-25, 25-18: Erica Park had 14 kills and two solo blocks, while Jessica Nicholas had 13 kills and 10 digs as Bear River defeated Weber. Janie Bensen had 36 assists for the Bears.
MONTICELLO DEF. DOLORES, COLO. 19-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-9: Ashley Dowell scored 12 service points in the fourth and decisive set for Monticello.
BEAVER DEF. ESCALANTE 25-19, 25-19, 14-25, 25-14: Morgan Wood had 12 kills and five blocks and Dianna Starbuck added five kills in the Beaver win.
CHRISTIAN HERITAGE DEF. WASATCH ACADEMY 259-9, 25-20, 25-15: Cathrine Cook led the Crusaders with four aces, two kills and six assists. Suzy Maddigan added six aces and two kills
ST. JOSEPH DEF. DUCHESNE 25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 25-18: The Jayhawks were led by MyKale Finco with three blocks, 15 digs and three kills. Nikki Laure added one block, eight assists and 15 digs.
