The North Salt Lake City Council has selected Shanna Schaefermeyer as the interim mayor to replace Kay Briggs.
Schaefermeyer has been a resident of the city for 30 years and previously served two terms on the City Council. She has a master's degree in education from the University of Utah and was employed with Salt Lake Community College, spending 10 years in administrative capacities and four years in instructional work. She is the mother of three children and has two grandchildren.
Her appointment will be made formal in open session at the next City Council meeting on Sept. 12.
