Where is civil discourse?

Published: Saturday, Sept. 2 2006 12:00 a.m. MDT

What has happened to civil discourse in America? We face issues of vital importance that only a vibrant and civil "marketplace of ideas" can address. Vitriol, stereotypes and labels only poison it. Sadly, this problem afflicts our national and local governments, the media and grass-roots discourse.

We will never solve our problems if those whose ideas do not ultimately prevail try to block implementation of ideas that do.
