A woman who allegedly tricked co-workers into giving her nearly $30,000 for disease treatment she never received was charged in 3rd District Court Wednesday.
While working at the University of Utah, Jennifer Hossli, 25, told co-workers that she had been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and was receiving treatment at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the Utah Cancer Specialists, as well as various other clinics, according to court documents.
Between April 2005 and this month, Hossli's friends and associates donated approximately $30,000 to her to cover medical expenses, court document say. Hossli later allegedly told detectives that she "lied about her medical condition."
She is charged with four counts of theft, all second-degree felonies, and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.
