The American Legion's 88th annual national convention in Salt Lake City ended Thursday at about 2:30 p.m., just after members elected their new national commander.

Massachusetts Legionnaire Paul A. Morin will take over immediately for outgoing commander Tom Bock. Each national commander is elected and serves for one year.

Although Morin traveled to different states to speak and campaign, no one challenged his bid for the top office, which oversees a membership of around 2.7 million veterans.
