The Napa 125 was the marquee race Saturday night at Rocky Mountain Raceway. The field included several racers from around Utah and Idaho. The start of the 125-lap race was also modified to make things a little more interesting.

Drivers with the fewest points on the season got the best starting positions. In the end it didn't seem to matter because nobody could stop defending champion Zan Sharp of Wellsville. He took the checkered flag, holding off Chris Ratterree of Nampa, Idaho.

Several accidents and cautions slowed the big race and tuned the oval into a troublesome track. In defense of his 2005 title, Sharp managed to outduel pre-race favorite Rip Michels of San Fernando, Calif.

In earlier action, Layton's Mike Bradley pulled off the victory in the Mini Cup event. Point standings leader Ryan Bird won his fifth Legends race, then things got a little wilder on the track. In the Super Stocks, Mitchell Dickenson got past Shad Dallin of Springville.

The victory was without any crashes or serious delays but some paint trading between Jeff Webster and James Celia generated a caution flag and delayed the action.

Point standings leader Nick Parker of Kearns had a tough night in the Modifieds . Early in the race he lost control of his car and spun out across the grass infield. Later on he was sent to the pits with a flat tire.

In the same race, Salt Lake City's Rob Davis and Thayne Smith hit the wall on the east side of the track, but both escaped without injury.

An early birthday present came to Lynn Hardy, who turns 40 on Tuesday. The birthday boy held off Jimmy Waters for the victory in the Modified Cars. With all of the previous collisions the track became treacherous for the Napa 125. Racing will continue at RMR until Sept. 30 when the raceway holds its annual drag racing event known as the "Night of Fire."
