Utah

VOLLEYBALL: The 2006 season gets underway for the No. 24-ranked Utah volleyball team as it travels to the Aquafina Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida. First up for the Utes is Arkansas State today followed by No. 5-ranked Florida on Saturday. The Utes return five starters and eight letter winners from the 2005 team that went 23-9 and made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Utah State

SOCCER: Utah State opens the 2006 soccer season by traveling to Pocatello to face Idaho State on Friday. The Aggies return home to host in-state rival Weber State on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Chuck & Gloria Bell Soccer Field.

VOLLEYBALL: Utah State's women's volleyball team will begin the 2006 season at the Hilton Albuquerque Classic hosted by the University of New Mexico on Friday and Saturday. The Aggies will open the tournament at 7 p.m. today against the host Lobos. USU will then play two more matches Saturday against Stephen F. Austin at 9:30 a.m. and against UC Riverside at 4:30 p.m.

Southern Utah

SOCCER: Southern Utah's women's soccer team opens its 2006 season this weekend as the Thunderbirds travel north for a two-game Idaho road swing. SUU begins the trip today with a match at Boise State, then travels to Pocatello for a Sunday date at Idaho State.

Weber State

TENNIS: Jonas Ehrlin begins his first season as the Weber State women's tennis coach, taking over for Wendy Compton, who was recently named assistant athletic director for compliance and senior woman administrator. Ehrlin is a former Weber State tennis player who posted a 125-61 career record. His Wildcat teams won four consecutive Big Sky titles and he won two individual Big Sky singles titles and one doubles title. Ehrlin was named the Weber State Athlete of the Year award in 1987 and was inducted into the WSU Hall of Fame in 2001.

Brigham Young

VOLLEYBALL: The Cougars open up the 2006 volleyball season this weekend on the road at the University of Central Florida Fall Invitational. After an impressive run in 2005 that saw BYU finish 25-4 and win the Mountain West Conference regular-season title, BYU coach Jason Watson and a talented cast of newcomers and the Cougars are once again the preseason favorites to repeat as league champions.
