While President Bush is fund raising for Orrin Hatch's already bursting war chest, Democratic challenger Pete Ashdown is doing something remarkable. The day before the president arrives for Hatch's fund-raising dinner, Ashdown is holding his own dinner, to raise funds not for his campaign but to combat hunger.
This stunt by Ashdown not only shows his commitment to public service but also his refusal to succumb to the twisted game that campaigns have become. How refreshing would it be to have Ashdown in the Senate next year?
