BERKELEY, Calif. California cornerback Tim Mixon will miss the regular season after tearing a ligament in his right knee during a scrimmage.
Mixon, a senior who also returns punts, intercepted three passes last season, though he was frequently targeted by opposing offenses who stayed away from fellow starter Daymeion Hughes.
Mixon was injured on a non-contact play while fielding a punt in Thursday's scrimmage, and the extent of the injury was discovered Friday.
The Golden Bears, who went 8-4 and won the Las Vegas Bowl last season, are ranked No. 9 in the preseason AP poll.
