Broadway musicals, revue taking spotlight

Theater productions also include shows for children, dramas

Broadway musicals and a revue showcasing Broadway love songs are among this week's new theater offerings.

"SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL," directed by Jansen Davis, is making a repeat visit to Rodgers Memorial Theatre, 292 E. Pages Lane, Centerville, Friday through Sept. 16.

The double-cast ensemble includes Katrina Nelson and Melissa Cecala as the Cat in the Hat, Zachary Glaittli and Jacob Tonks as JoJo, Andrew Taula and Jonathon Crittenden as Horton the Elephant, Maegan Madill and Addie Holman as Gertrude and Michelle Smith and Kylee Johnson as Mayzie.

Performances are Mondays-Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12-$14 for adults, $11-$12 for senior citizens and $9 for children (298-1302).

"FOOTLOOSE," the stage version of the 1984 filmed-in-Utah County movie, opens Friday and continues through Oct. 16 in Hale Center Theater Orem.

Directed by Christopher Clark and choreographed by Lindsay Clark, the musical's double-cast ensemble includes Cody Walker and Cory Stephens sharing the role of rebellions Ren, a newcomer from Chicago who stirs things up in a small Midwest town where dancing and rock music are forbidden.

Other leading players include Valerie C. Walker and Libby Frandsen Jones as Ariel Moore, Ren's love interest, and Eric Glissmeyer and Rick Priddis as her father, Rev. Shaw Moore, who is adamant about enforcing the ban.

Performances are nightly except Sunday at 7:30 p.m. with matinees at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 23 and 30 and Oct. 14. There will be no performances on Aug. 29-30 and Sept. 5. Tickets are $12.50-$16.50 (226-8600).

"CATS," Andrew Lloyd Webber's long-running Broadway and London hit musical, will have its Utah Valley premiere from Friday through Sept. 4 in the Payson High School auditorium, produced by Payson Community Theatre.

Performances are 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday this week, and Tuesday through Saturday the following week, with one matinee at 3 p.m. on Labor Day, Sept. 4. All tickets are $7, available at the door or in advance at the Napa Auto Parts store in Payson.

"LOVE IS . . . ," a musical revue featuring love songs from several Broadway productions, is being produced by Bountiful Performing Arts Center through Sept. 2.

Performances are Mondays and Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. in the Bountiful City Hall council chambers. Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and children (294-7469).
