I have watched with interest the UHP campaign to reduce traffic fatalities. They are focusing on drunken driving, drowsy driving and distracted driving. Also, much ado has been made about the new rules for HOV lanes. I suggest the UHP patrol the HOV lanes for speeding. I traveled from Salt Lake to Provo and back last week and was happy to have use of the lanes. I feel safe in the carpool lanes, because people cannot pull in and out in front of me. During my trip, I was honked at, flipped off and nearly run off the road by drivers far exceeding the speed limit. Is the carpool lane reserved for those who feel their right to arrive at their destination quickly supersedes my right to travel safely?
