Salt Lake-based Sorenson Communications said Tuesday it has opened 17 new Sorenson Video Relay Service interpreting centers across the country.

The company's video relay service enables deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals to efficiently conduct free video relay calls with family, friends and business associates through a qualified sign language interpreter, using a Sorenson videophone, television and high-speed Internet connection.

Sorenson also provides its Sorenson VP videophones at no charge to deaf and hard-of-hearing people who use sign language to communicate.
