For a man who loves and admires his "Utah neighbors" so effusively, columnist Don Gale ("Utahns should reject Bush's partisan politics," Aug. 5) should have more respect for their intelligence. When writing a column about partisanship, Gale should have greater appreciation for his craft than to regurgitate partisan cliches and dishonest political analysis, while popping off a bevy of absurd non-sequiturs.
What Gale really meant to say in his Aug. 6 column was, "My Utah neighbors are really nice do-gooders, but they're just not as smart as I am, otherwise they would agree with me."
If it is the desire of the Deseret Morning News to showcase contrasting points of view from responsible individuals, it can do better. I'm beginning to understand why sitting through those old KSL-TV editorials was so incredibly painful.
