Clean Flicks owner plans petition party

OREM — Frustrated at a recent court decision that prohibits businesses from editing movies for content, Clean Flicks store owner Daniel Thompson wants a chance to share his thoughts with Hollywood.

Thompson, who owns four of the edited-movie stores in Utah County, is hosting a 2 p.m. "petition party" Saturday at his Orem store, 908 S. State.

At the event, people can sign a petition, which will be sent to all the film directors who filed the lawsuit against movie-editing firms. The petition will encourage the directors to reach a compromise with movie-editing companies and consumers who like edited movies.

Airlines show edited versions of movies — versions that Thompson said he wants to see made available for consumer purchase.

The Utah market for edited movies is huge, Thompson said, citing the 400-plus active clients and 1,200 occasional clients to his store.

"The market is there for edited films," Thompson said. "Although this petition is (like) David versus Goliath . . . at least it will bring to (producers') notice that there are people who care."
