ALPINE Search teams found the body of Nathan Wallace on Tuesday afternoon, two days after the Salt Lake man went missing.
Utah County search-and-rescue teams started looking for Wallace, 20, on Monday after they found his friend and fellow hiker Eric Monfrooy, 21.
The two became lost while trying to hike down Lone Peak Sunday night. In the darkness, Wallace slipped on a moss-covered rock, slid off the trail and out of sight, Monfrooy said.
Monfrooy shouted for 20 minutes, hoping Wallace would respond.
He didn't get any response.
He then spent the night sleeping on a rock.
In the morning, his cell phone had enough battery power to make a one-minute phone call to police, which enabled his rescue by emergency helicopter.
Wallace's mother, Rebecca Wallace, was at the search team's command post Monday and Tuesday, and aided in the searching Tuesday morning.
She described her son as a avid hiker and a strong individual.
