Wife stands by Gregerson
"I've never known my husband to do something like this," Catherine Gregerson told KSL Radio's Doug Wright in an interview Tuesday morning. "My husband and me may have had our problems, but I have never in my life known him to be a murderer. . . . I don't appreciate people pre-judging him already. I will stand by him if he denies he did it."
The 22-year-old woman's support for Craig Roger Gregerson comes despite allegations she has made in court documents that he was abusive.
"That day he hit me, I had him in a corner, I cornered him in a corner of our apartment and I was just yelling at him and not letting him leave at all, and I did the same thing my mother did," she told Wright.
While she acknowledged her husband physically hurt her, she stressed their 1-year-old daughter was never the target of his violence something contrary to what she has alleged in a past court document.
The couple met on the Internet, and she said she was drawn to him because "he treated me better than most guys. He made me feel beautiful, unlike other guys I've dated. He actually made me feel special and I felt wanted, at least, with him."
"He doesn't feel comfortable around kids unless it's his own child," Catherine Gregerson said.
She said her husband didn't know Destiny, but she mentioned Destiny "was a very happy child" and often asked to play with their baby when Catherine was leaving the apartment where her husband had been living separately.
She said on the night Destiny was reported missing, July 16, she asked Craig to spend the night at her place, two blocks away, and he agreed.
"He acted his normal self," she said.
The next day, she said police broke into his apartment when he wasn't home, saying they thought Craig was in danger inside, after he hadn't been seen for three days, "which is a bunch of BS."
"I walked by and they flat out told me they broke in they told me," she said. "They got in through the back window."
She told Wright police went through the home "with a fine-toothed comb" several times and found nothing including the basement where Destiny's body was eventually found.
