She said the Utah High School Rodeo Association has helped her grow as a person and as a cowgirl.
"If you can compete with Utah's high school rodeo contestants, you can compete anywhere."
Ken Norris, director of the Utah High School Rodeo Association and a past president of the National High School Rodeo Association, said, "If all of our cowboys and cowgirls are as tough as I know they can be, we will bring another national team title back to Utah."
Norris' granddaughter, Kenzie Norris, is the current student secretary for the NHSRA. Utah cowboys and cowgirls have high school rodeo events, typically with 650 competitors, every weekend in the fall and spring, she said. That makes them tough competitors. Most states only have around 10 rodeos all season.
"I've been to places like Pennsylvania and Ohio," Kenzie Norris said, "They have as many contestants in their whole association as we have in a single event."
Fifty-three of Utah's best rodeo athletes will go to Illinois where they hope to live up to Utah's rugged reputation.
