"A centralized search like this can only accomplish so much before you need to kick it into second gear," said Tim Hollinger, who has been organizing the search effort. "It actually transitions into a different type of searching where it's more community-based searching, which is where you have volunteers who live in specific communities to gather people there."
For the near future, the volunteer search effort will continue to be headquartered at the LDS church on Harvard Ave. The search effort is expected to resume at 6 a.m. today.
More than 75 percent of Salt Lake City has been searched so far. Volunteers have covered about 48 percent of Salt Lake County. Searchers have looked in Memory Grove, City Creek, Emigration, Millcreek and Warm Springs canyons.
Destiny's family says they will continue to search even if volunteer numbers wane.
"We're not going to stop until Destiny is found," said Peter Brooks, Destiny's uncle. "We're not going to stop until we return her home."
