Thanks to a local Internet-service provider, Salt Lake City's Liberty Park now has free wireless access to the Web.
The wireless Internet service is available starting today in the southern half of the park, in the area near the Tracy Aviary and boating pond. Service will be expanded to the rest of the park at a later time.
The service is being donated by XMission, Utah's largest private Internet-service provider. The company is owned by Pete Ashdown, who is a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate.
XMission paid for the installation of antennas around the park to carry the service. The Internet service can be accessed through laptop computers. The company also provides free wireless Internet access to several other areas in downtown Salt Lake City, including Pioneer Park, the Salt Lake City Library, the Gallivan Center and Main Street.
