Owlz hammer Helena to stop losing streak

HELENA, Mont. — The Orem Owlz snapped a three-game skid Thursday with a 9-2 win over Helena.

Starting pitcher Ken Herndon (2-2) tossed five scoreless innings and third baseman P.J. Phillips went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Owlz.

Orem built an 8-0 lead by the seventh-inning stretch with a flurry of modest rallies.

Cleanup hitter Christopher Pettit led off the top half of the second for the Owlz with a line-drive double to left field. Phillips plated Pettit with an RBI single to center that made it 1-0.

Orem (17-13) and Helena play the second installment of a four-game series tonight at 7.

RAPTORS 8, OSPREY 4: At Missoula, Mont., Rick Taloa homered in the seventh inning and drove in three runs as Ogden doubled up Missoula.
