KSL and KSFI remain at the top of the heap in part two of the spring Arbitron ratings, but KXRK has leaped to third place from its sixth position last month.
Why X-96 made such an improvement isn't clear, unless it is simply that more teenagers have more time to listen to the radio. KXRK had a 5.8 percent share last summer, compared to June's 5.2 percent.
However, "Radio Disney," KWDZ locally, is a popular pre-teen station and showed no increase in its June audience.
KSL seems to be receiving little benefit of late from its simulcast on FM-102.7; if it were to split off programming again on FM, it would make little difference to the AM ratings.
KUBL was fourth, followed by KNRS-AM at fifth place.
KDUT (Spanish) also showed a significant improvement.
These ratings, for listeners ages 12-plus, are simply estimates but are still regarded as the best indicator in the industry. The complete spring book will be released on July 28.
