COLUMBUS, Ohio Chris Henderson and Jerrod Laventure scored and the New York Red Bulls beat the Columbus Crew 2-0 Wednesday night.
The win lifted New York (4-6-8) out of last place and past Columbus (4-9-6) in the Eastern Conference standings. It was the Crew's ninth consecutive game without a win.
Henderson slipped the ball past Crew goalkeeper Noah Palmer from a tight angle along the end line in the 50th minute for his second goal of the season.
Forward Edson Buddle set up the goal with a long diagonal through pass that put Henderson alone against Palmer. Buddle and Henderson both are former Crew players dealt to New York by Crew coach Sigi Schmid prior to the start of the season.
Laventure lofted a shot from 28 yards that floated over Palmer's head and fell into the back of the net in the 90th minute. It was Laventure's first career goal.
