BYU-Idaho student arrested in gun thefts

REXBURG, Idaho — Shortly after his release from a Salt Lake City jail, a Brigham Young University-Idaho student was arrested in the theft of 42 guns from a pawn shop in Rexburg.

Courtney Eagleston, 19, and his parents were escorted by Rexburg police detectives from Salt Lake City, said police Capt. Randy Lewis.

Eagleston was charged with felony burglary and grand theft in the burglary at B&B Guns and Pawn. A Madison County judge set bail Friday at $100,000.

Eagleston, who came to BYU-Idaho from Naples, Fla., was initially arrested July 7 in Salt Lake City. Police said a search of his car turned up 15 grams of cocaine and 21 guns believed to be from the pawn shop. He was released Tuesday from the Salt Lake County Jail due to a delay in the filing of charges.

In all, 42 firearms and other items worth more than $25,000 were stolen from B&B, Lewis said. A shotgun missing from the pawnshop was found Wednesday in a vacant lot near an apartment complex.

Rexburg police also recovered a cash register that was stolen from the shop. Eight firearms are still missing, Lewis said.
