Temple Square's outdoor Concerts in the Park series ends its 2006 season with nine sets during August. Four other concerts are scheduled for the Assembly Hall.
In August, concerts in the Brigham Young Historic Park begin at 7:30 p.m. They are open to families and children of all ages. Concerts in the Assembly Hall also begin at 7:30 p.m. and are limited to those 8 years of age and older. All concerts are free.
The following concerts will be in the Assembly Hall:
Aug. 5 organist Brett Patterson will play selected works of Buxtehude, Durufle, Vierne and Franck, including settings by Bach, Krebs and Peters.
Aug. 12 Trumpet ensemble Gabriel will perform in the Assembly Hall a program of classic trumpet fare as well as selected religious songs. Seven Trumpeters, using various kinds of trumpets, are augmented by organ, keyboard and percussion accompaniment.
Aug. 19 Tenor Jordan Bluth will sing in the Assembly Hall a program of classical, Broadway and inspirational selections. Bluth has performed at theUtah Opera Festival.
Aug. 26 Violinist Tamara Tanner will perform in the Assembly Hall Bach's Gigue from Partita in D Minor, Franck's Violin Sonata in A Major and Grieg's Sonata in C Minor, Op. 45. Tanner performs with several orchestras and chamber music ensembles in the Chicago area, as well as yearly performing Nutcracker with Ballet West.
In addition, 30-minute organ recitals are held in the Conference Center weekdays and Saturdays at 12:05 p.m. and Sundays at 2:05 p.m.
Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsals are open to the public in the Conference Center on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m., as is "Music and the Spoken Word" featuring the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on Sundays in the Conference Center when doors open at 8 a.m. and close at 9:15 a.m. for the 9:30 a.m. 30-minute broadcast.
