LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley greeted the Huntsmans at the event but left before formal remarks were given. Other church leaders attending included President Thomas S. Monson and President James E. Faust, first and second counselors in the LDS Church's First Presidency. LDS apostles attending were Elders M. Russell Ballard, L. Tom Perry, Joseph B. Wirthlin, Dallin H. Oaks and Richard G. Scott.

Huntsman serves as an Area Seventy for the LDS Church.

Karen Huntsman told the audience she and her husband were living with their three small children in North Hollywood back in 1962 when word came that Jon's mother had been diagnosed with a form of cancer that would eventually take her life. Huntsman told his wife at the time, "Someday I want to start my own business so I can put resources into making a difference for people with this disease."

She said her own dream at the time was simply "to get a kitchen table large enough that we could all fit around it." The ensuing decades have been a story of "hard work, and sacrifice, and love and supporting children and a lot of fun," she said, thanking donors for their generosity and support for cancer patients and research to find a cure.
