'Yellow' air quality is due to ozone levels

A "yellow" air quality alert is in effect today for Salt Lake, Davis, Weber and Utah counties, because ozone pollution levels are climbing.

"Ozone, which is formed when gasoline emissions mix with sunlight and heat, is expected to reach the upper limits of the moderate range," said Donna Spangler, spokeswoman for the DEQ, in a release issued Wednesday afternoon.

On Thursday, the department's Division of Air Quality would like residents to use mass transit or carpools where possible.
