Harpring said he only wanted to sign with a team that should make the playoffs, which Utah hasn't done since his first season with the team.

"It's about winning now, and that's why I wanted to come back," he said, approving of the trade for veteran Derek Fisher that became official Wednesday because the 10-year veteran guard can help lead sophomores Deron Williams and C.J. Miles and rookies Ronnie Brewer and Dee Brown.

Miller noted that Harpring — the 15th overall pick in the 1998 draft who played with Orlando, Cleveland and Philadelphia before coming to Utah in 2002 — has grown since he's been a Jazzman. At first, Harpring was "so emotional he took himself out" of games at first. "He's his own toughest critic," Miller said, adding he's since learned to deal with his feelings.

Harpring has played 449 career games with a 13.0 average and highs of 33 points and 19 boards. He averaged 12.5 points and 5.2 rebounds in 71 games last season when he had to sit out some second games of back-to-back sets because of his knee rehab.
