Superman misjudged

I was distressed to read the Rev. Terry Long falsely accuse Superman of fathering an out-of-wedlock child ("Superhero/Super savior?" July 9). This misimpression, apparently shared by the (no doubt mild-mannered) reporter who wrote the story, Lynn Arave, demands immediate correction.

As anyone who has seen "Superman II" knows, Superman gives up his super powers in order to marry Lois Lane. We might question Superman's choice in honeymoon locales — the Fortress of Solitude — but not his chastity. Only later, in order to save the world from General Zod, does he regain his powers and erase Lois' memory of his secret identity and their marriage.

It should serve as a reminder, albeit a fictional one, that any professed Christian should be careful before judging and condemning another. Let him without sin cast the first piece of kryptonite.
