The editorial page of the Deseret Morning News (July 8) is concerned that the Utah law allowing the children of illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at the state's colleges and universities is in jeopardy because its longtime sponsor, Rep. David Ure, was defeated in the Republican primary.
But as long as in-state tuition is being granted to those students who want to improve their lives, why not expand the program to include the vast number of students in Bangladesh, Chad, Ethiopia, etc. who also wish to improve their lives? Why not just abolish the residency requirement or better still pass a new tax for transportation funds and living expenses for such students?
