Throughout July, the Humane Society of Utah will be having a buy one, get one free sale, during which people can adopt any animal for the regular fee and get any other animal whose adoption fee would ordinarily be the same as or less than that of the adopted animal for free.

For example, the standard fee for a puppy 4 months or younger is $130. If someone adopts a puppy at that price, he or she can also take home a second puppy at no charge or could choose to adopt, for free, a kitten that would ordinarily cost $70, a $75 adult dog or an adult cat with a regular adoption fee of $49. All month, every adopter can take home any two pets for the price of one.

"We've found that today's lifestyles often mean that people aren't home much during the day, and companion animals are much happier when they aren't all alone for long periods," said HSU Executive Director Gene Baierschmidt. "Having two of any kind of pet is a great advantage for the animals and it's amazing how often even animals of different species will bond and get along with each other in the same household."

The adoption fees include the animals' spay or neuter operations and first immunizations, de-worming, cardboard carriers for cats and leashes for dogs, plus a complete free physical examination at any of several participating private veterinary clinics along the Wasatch Front.
