Despite giving motorists adequate warning, almost 50 citations were still handed out during a court-approved traffic checkpoint Friday night through Saturday morning. Every vehicle passing through 1300 East near 3200 South was stopped and checked between 10 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday for a valid driver's license and registration.
Police wrote 48 citations for various offenses including registration and insurance violations and open containers, said Salt Lake City police detective Joe Cyr. Police arrested seven people for DUI, one for heroin possession and another person had a warrant.
The most bizarre incident was a man arrested for investigation of lewdness. Despite a sign warning that a checkpoint was just 500 feet ahead, the driver still pulled up to police with his pants pulled down, Cyr said.
