Workman pushing Real stadium
Her efforts backing Sandy plan target councilman, Corroon
Workman, a former Salt Lake County mayor who is now president of the Sandy Chamber of Commerce, sent an e-mail to chamber members Friday, asking them to contact Hendrickson and county Mayor Peter Corroon to voice support for the stadium. Sandy is in the county district that Hendrickson represents.
County officials are expected to vote July 11 on whether to join a stadium-financing agreement with Sandy. Sandy wants the county to pledge $71 million of county hotel-room tax funds and $4.8 million of county property taxes to help build infrastructure around the stadium.
"It's getting down to crunch time, and we want support for this," Workman said in a phone interview Friday. "It will affect all the businesses. It's just huge for us."
Although her e-mail said Hendrickson is "the final vote needed" for the council to give thumbs up to the stadium, Workman said she has not heard from any council members and does not know how they are voting.
"His 'yes' vote will have an instantaneous, huge impact on our businesses," the e-mail read. "This is immensely important to all of us."
