WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento utilized timely hitting and quality pitching to eke out a 4-2 win over the Salt Lake Bees Friday evening.

A half inning after Salt Lake had tied the game at 2-2 in the seventh, left-fielder Andrew Beattie restored Sacramento's lead permanently. Beattie's double through the middle brought in John Baker and put the River Cats ahead 3-2.

Meanwhile, Sacramento starting pitcher Shane Komine was solid for the River Cats, even though he didn't get a decision. Komine scattered four hits and struck out 11 batters over seven innings.

Salt Lake initially went ahead 1-0 in the first when Curtis Pride scored off a wild pitch. Four innings later, though, the River Cats took the lead, courtesy of a two-run double by Jason Perry.

Perry led the River Cats from the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two doubles.

Hiram Bocachica and Scott McClain also had two hits apiece for Sacramento. On the other hand, nobody stood out offensively for Salt Lake, which only managed five hits.

Jeff Mathis homered for the Bees in the top half of the seventh inning.

Salt Lake and Sacramento will meet again at 8 tonight. It will be the second contest of a four-game series.

BEES WAX: The Bees' parent club swapped one Weaver brother for another Friday, designating right-hander Jeff for assignment and replacing him with right-hander Jered from Triple-A Salt Lake. Jeff Weaver was 3-10 with a 6.29 ERA in 16 games this season. Jered Weaver was 6-1 with two complete game shutouts and a 1.99 ERA in 12 games over two stints in Salt Lake.
