Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. on Thursday announced his nomination of Sherrie Hayashi to lead the state's Labor Commission.
Hayashi, upon state Senate confirmation, will succeed Lee Ellertson as labor commissioner upon his retirement in mid-July. Ellertson was appointed as commissioner in 1996.
Hayashi works as director of the commission's Anti-Discrimination & Labor Division.
She has been employed by the commission off and on for 15 years, working in various departments, including working as an associate general counsel, a systems analyst and an investigator.
She received both her undergraduate and juris doctorate degrees from the University of Utah and is licensed by the Utah State Bar.
