Dustin Moseley sent a little message to the parent club. Jered Weaver and Joe Saunders are pretty good, but the Los Angeles Angels might want to keep an eye on the young right hander.
Moseley pitched a complete game for Salt Lake (42-29), leading the Bees to a 4-3 win over Las Vegas and sending his team into a rare off day with an eight-game winning streak.
"What we got here is special, man," Moseley said of the Bees pitching staff. "These guys are great. I'm just trying to keep up with them."
The complete game was Moseley's second of the season and improves his record to 7-3, tying him for the team lead in victories with Saunders. He also now has half of the team's four nine-inning efforts.
"That's the best I've seen him throw since (a rib-cage injury a month ago,)" Salt Lake manager Brian Harper said. "He's back on track now. He was doing great before he got hurt."
Making things easier for Moseley was a Salt Lake offense that chased 51s pitcher Eric Stults after just 5 2/3 innings.
Casey Smith blooped a double to the warning track over a drawn-in outfield to bring Reggie Willits home in the first inning. Smith later scored on a funky 9-2-6 single-turned double play from Jeff Mathis to end the inning.
Adam Pavkovich stroked an RBI double in the second inning, driving in Corey Myers, giving the Bees a 3-0 lead after two frames.
Moseley was masterful through seven innings. His only mistakes, however, were costly.
Las Vegas' Jeff Duncan belted a long homer to right in the third inning, and Edwin Bellorin followed suit with a towering blast to lead off the eighth.
A third run was added in the eighth when Salt Lake had trouble completing a pair of near double plays that allowed a Las Vegas runner to advance on the fielder's choice plays.
Harper had a short leash on Moseley in the eighth and ninth but let him pitch through.
"He was pretty much hitter-to-hitter then," Harper said. "But he pitched such a good game, and his pitch count was so low that I wanted to give him a chance to complete it." Moseley didn't let that chance go without taking advantage of it.
The 24-year-old Texan retired the side easily.
