ELBERTA Five fire agencies battled a 100-acre wildland fire near Elberta Tuesday night.
The blaze was reported around 6:45 p.m. by an eyewitness who told fire offficials that lightning ignited the flames.
Firefighters from Santaquin, Goshen, Genola, Utah County and the Bureau of Land Management fought the fire aggressively with backburning, but the flames were still not contained Tuesday night.
The fire threatened several structures initially, but firefighters managed to redirect the blaze away from the buildings.
U.S. 6 was closed around 8:45 p.m. after the fire came dangerously close to the highway. Firefighters expected the road to remain closed for several hours while they continued to fight the fire through the night.
