If you happen to stroll past the Gallivan Center in downtown Salt Lake City on Monday, be prepared to get an eye and ear full of words. The traveling art installation "Dialogue Project" is making a stop in town.

"Dialogue Project" is the work of San Francisco artist Mike Garibaldi Frick. The installation features nine screens covered with thousands of quotes from people throughout history, including George Orwell, Madonna, Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr. and Oprah.

Garibaldi Frick said he designed the exhibit to promote freedom of expression in public spaces and meaningful dialogue among viewers.

The artwork features quotes like King's statement, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." The quotes center around 18 themes that include politics, the body, love, power and community.

Standing among the screens are three strikingly lifelike statues of people that are also covered in quotations.

Garibaldi Frick has taken the project to 11 cities across the nation this spring, and Salt Lake City will be his 12th stop. Salt Lake was willing to rent out a portion of the Gallivan Center for the exhibit, but other cities have not been as willing. Some cities have refused to accommodate the exhibit, but Garibaldi Frick said he and his crew tend to visit cities that refuse to host the installation anyway as a way to provoke discussion about freedom of expression.

The installation will be on display at the Gallivan Center, Main Street and 200 South, near the waterfall, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday. A film crew is making a documentary of the artwork and the nationwide tour of "Dialogue Project."
