Brett Hull, the most sought-after free agent in the NHL, is moving to the Dallas Stars, leaving the St. Louis Blues.
"He agreed to terms late last night," said Stars spokesman Lar-ry Kelly. "He's on his way to Dallas this morning."Kelly said Hull would appear with Stars officials at an 11:30 a.m. MDT news conference.
Hull reportedly had been seeking up to $8 million a year for at least three years. Kelly would not discuss contract terms. The Blues had decided two days earlier to not re-sign Hull.
In other signings:
- Longtime teammates Guy Carbonneau and Craig Ludwig re-signed with Dallas. Both 16-year veterans signed one-year contracts with one-year options.
- The Blues kept another big-money free agent, agreeing to a three-year contract with left wing Geoff Courtnall. Courtnall, 35, led the team with 31 goals and was third with 62 points.
- The Rangers signed forward Scott Fraser, who had 12 goals and 11 assists in 29 games with Edmonton last season.
- Ottawa added right wing David Oliver, who scored 38 goals for Houston of the IHL.
- Free agent Doug Gilmour has agreed to a deal with the Chicago Blackhawks, according to broadcast and published reports today.
Gilmour, is reportedly leaving the New Jersey Devils for a three-year contract worth $18 million.
