Workers rebuilding I-15 in Salt Lake County will walk off the job Friday morning.

They'll come back but not until late Sunday when most holiday travelers have returned from their Independence Day weekend journeys.Wasatch Constructors postponed a scheduled Thursday night-Friday morning closure of I-15 in downtown Salt Lake City and plans to end all work about 6 a.m. Friday.

"The only thing we have going on July 3rd is a 24-hour restriction on 8000 South be-neath I-15. It closed on June 29 and will stay closed," said Wasatch spokesman Brian Mauldwin.

"There will be no restrictions on July 4th and 5th, although subcontractors may be doing some work. The 3rd and 4th are official Wasatch holidays."

Wasatch, the construction consortium hired by the Utah Department of Transportation, has made a habit of shutting down the project on holiday weekends. Work will resume about 10 p.m. Sunday, Mauldwin said.
