On a clear day exactly two years after their romance began, Barbra Streisand and James Brolin exchanged wedding vows Wednesday evening during a private ceremony at her estate overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Streisand's son, Jason, gave the bride away, publicist Dick Guttman said. Brolin's son, Josh, was the best man at the ceremony held in the formal living room.Marvin Hamlisch conducted a 16-piece orchestra, featuring 10 violins, during the ceremony. Guests included Donna Karan, John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, directors Sidney Pollack and Irwin Kershner and Quincy Jones. President Clinton's brother, Roger, attended with his wife, Molly.

Prior to the ceremony, guests gathered on the estate's lawn and rose gardens, Guttman said. The pool, filled with water lilies and candles, was the site of the reception. The couple will honeymoon at an undisclosed location.

Rumors the wedding day was near surfaced a week ago and gained momentum as a huge white tent went up this week on Streisand's compound.

Florists, caterers and party suppliers began deliveries Tuesday, and publicists for the couple hesitantly confirmed the ceremony would be this week. As it turned out, Wednesday was the second anniversary of their first date, July 1, 1996.

Brolin, who calls his bride "Beezer," proposed four or five times to Streisand before he found just the right ring in January 1997. She began wearing the ring, but there was no official engagement announcement until publicists confirmed it months later.

Satellite TV trucks had to bivouac a half-mile from the house, where camera crews and reporters hovered near the driveway in anticipation of arrivals and a glimpse of someone famous. A private security force kept order. Guttman had requested that media helicopters stay away from the estate so "sacred vows can be heard."

Streisand, 56, is divorced from actor Elliott Gould. Brolin, 57, was married twice before.
