"Everwood" is gone, but it clearly won't be forgotten by its fans anytime soon.
In the wake of the show's final episode on Monday, the e-mails have been rolling in from those fans, whose reactions range from shock to anger to regret to resignation. Here's a sampling: "I, too, watched this show from the beginning. . . . There were some strong episodes I would not want younger kids to see, but overall I have enjoyed it. I agree that the people at CW are idiots."
"It is really sad that the powers that be at the new CW network could not see the potential that still lies in this show. It is heartbreaking that one of the few shows that is truly family-friendly without being silly is now gone."
"I . . . would race home to sit and watch 'Everwood' with my teenage daughter. . . . It was the one show that I felt we could watch other families struggle, but ultimately the love for one another kept them together."
"It saddens me to see such a consistently excellent family drama canceled, while the evenings are filled with very little of any interest or value to me."
"I was having a lot of trouble coping with the fact that 'Everwood' ended because, to me, it was an abrupt finish. . . . I was under the impression that 'Everwood' was in its prime and was avidly looking forward to another season in the fall."
"After watching last night's finale of 'Everwood,' I have no idea how they could have canceled it. I was a hit-and-miss viewer of Everwood . . . but last night's finale was so much better than the '7th Heaven' finale that my wife made me sit through that I am dumbfounded as to how they could bring back '7th Heaven' over ('Everwood').
"It is hard not to be angry over this cancellation. It was a great family drama and believable!"
"It's incredible how a show can take hold of your heart. . . . I know this is a terrible use of a euphemism, but I'm going to use it nonetheless. It's like we lost a child, and we don't get to see it grow up. We're just left with this cold feeling of loss."
"It . . . had good values, and I was not afraid to let my children watch."
"I can't believe I just watched the last episode of 'Everwood.' It just has to be a mistake. I love this show sooooo much, and I hope whoever is responsible for taking it off the air comes to their senses and revives it."
