In founding Control4, a maker of affordable home automation products, Will West worked every contact he had gained in his career as a serial entrepreneur.
Having run several companies that used unique technology to create in-demand products, West had a track record that served him well when he sought funding for Control4.
Of course, Control4's idea creating the platform that would make an automated digital lifestyle accessible to almost everyone wasn't bad, either.
With funding in hand, West was able in 2003 to fast-track the development of Control4's wired and wireless products, placing them for sale with electronic retailers like Circuit City.
West also signed an agreement allowing another company to private-label Control4's technology, and he is working with other large firms with the goal of making Control4 the industry standard.
In April 2005, Control4 shipped its first product, ending the year with sales in the multiple millions of dollars. West feels the future is practically limitless for his products, which could do everything from enhancing entertainment options to allowing the elderly to live longer in their own homes and helping an energy company manage usage more efficiently.
